Champion of Public Safety
Public safety remains a cornerstone of Tom’s leadership. Recognizing the importance of a fully equipped and well-trained police department, Tom supported initiatives that improved police compensation to attract and retain top talent. He has actively engaged with law enforcement, completing the citizen’s police academy and participating in ride-alongs to better understand and address the needs of officers and the community.
Tom's insistence on better EMS service, and his relentless pressure on DeKalb County for service enhancements, has led to notable improvements to EMS response times within Dunwoody.
Driving Strategic Infrastructure Investments
Tom Lambert spearheaded the creation of Dunwoody’s first-ever Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to prioritize and manage the city’s growing list of infrastructure projects. The CIP is now formally integrated into the city’s annual budgeting process. This transparent, forward-looking plan integrates capital and operational budgets, aligns city resources with long-term goals, and empowers residents with accessible and transparent information about investment decisions.
Transforming Dunwoody’s Community Spaces
Tom’s vision for Dunwoody includes vibrant public spaces and thriving neighborhoods. He was the visionary and driving force behind the creation of Dunwoody’s first entertainment district. Since the approval of the Dunwoody Village entertainment district, Dunwoody has proactively created additional districts in the Perimeter area that include High Street, Ashford Lane, Campus 244 and Park Place. These new districts have served as a catalyst for attracting several new restaurants and entertainment destinations to the city. Dunwoody’s entertainment districts have also stimulated millions of dollars of PRIVATE investment into “POPS” – Privately Owned Public Spaces. Tom is proud of the tremendous impact these districts have had enhancing the community and fostering economic development within the city.
Advocating for Smart Development
Tom understands that we can protect our residential neighborhoods and the character that makes Dunwoody such a special place to live, while still adding the services and amenities our resident’s desire. He evaluates every development proposal rigorously, with an established record of voting against projects that fail to align with the city’s comprehensive plan and vision. His leadership ensures that new developments prioritize placemaking and enhance residents’ quality of life.
Supporting Local Businesses
Tom is a steadfast advocate for Dunwoody’s local businesses. He has worked to streamline outdated business license renewal procedures and regularly engages with business owners through events with the Greater Perimeter Chamber of Commerce. His hands-on approach supports the backbone of Dunwoody’s economy.
Enhancing Parks and Recreation
Parks are essential to our everyday quality of life, and Tom has been a proactive leader in helping to grow and improve Dunwoody’s park system. Tom’s vision and hard work allowed the city to acquire the new Waterford Park in an identified area of greenspace need in Dunwoody’s northeast section. Thanks to his collaboration with the previous property owners and county leadership, Tom secured this seven-plus acre park for Dunwoody at no cost to the city (purchase made using county funds). He is also advocating for the timely and practical implementation of approved master plans for Wildcat and Homecoming Parks.
Protecting Pedestrians and Cyclists
After completing months of research, Tom authored and sponsored Dunwoody’s Vulnerable Road User Ordinance - the first ordinance of its kind in the Southeast - to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. This groundbreaking initiative has set a precedent that has since been copied in other local municipalities, ensuring safer streets for all.
Engaging with the Community
Tom takes pride in being accessible and responsive to constituents. Whether hosting “Coffee with Council” events, organizing town halls, or attending neighborhood association meetings, he listens to residents and acts on their concerns. His proactive community engagement ensures every voice in Dunwoody is heard.
Committed to Professional Development
Tom’s dedication to education and informed leadership is unparalleled. He has completed 171 credit hours of municipal education through the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government and earned multiple certifications for his commitment to professional development. Tom has completed the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Community Planning Academy. Additionally, Lambert was accepted into and successfully completed the ARC’s prestigious Regional Leadership Institute. He is also an alumnus of the Robert E. Knox Municipal Leadership Institute. His achievements in leadership training bolster his ability to address Dunwoody’s evolving needs.
Respected Leader Across Georgia
Tom Lambert has quickly become a well-respected leader not just in Dunwoody, but throughout the Atlanta Region and across the State of Georgia. Tom’s peers on the City Council unanimously elected him to serve as our city’s Mayor Pro-Tempore. He has also been elected President of Georgia Municipal Association’s District Three (east) and appointed to its Board of Directors—making him the first Dunwoody official to hold these prestigious roles.

A Lifetime Dedicated to Serving his Community
TOM'S BACKGROUND
Tom Lambert has spent decades serving and leading in the Dunwoody community, where his dedication to enhancing the city's quality of life has made a lasting impact. A proud Dunwoody resident for 26 years, Tom is committed to fostering a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive city for all.
After earning his degree from Penn State University in 1992, Tom began his professional journey as a Front Office Manager for Marriott in his native New York. Two years later, he relocated to Atlanta to pursue new opportunities as a Marketing Consultant for Texaco. Tom married his wife Danielle in 1999, and the newlyweds moved into the home where they still live today. Together they chose Dunwoody as the perfect place to start their family and raise their children.
From the moment he arrived in Dunwoody, Tom has served the community as a dedicated volunteer and leader. His contributions span across numerous local organizations, including serving as Chair of Kingsley Elementary School’s Charter Council, President of Kittredge Magnet School’s PTA, President of the Chamblee Touchdown Club, President of Kingsley Swim and Racquet Club and as a board member of Georgians for Local Area School Systems (GLASS) and Murphey Candler Little League. In addition, Tom has devoted countless hours to coaching youth sports and volunteering with schools, Boy Scouts, and community organizations.
Tom’s efforts have garnered widespread recognition. In 2008, his leadership at Kingsley Elementary earned the group the title of “National Parent Group of the Year,” and in 2012, he was honored as “Dunwoody’s Sustainability Hero.” His focus on building a stronger community has been a cornerstone of his work.
Even before being elected to the City Council, Tom played a pivotal role in Dunwoody’s development. Following the city’s incorporation, he authored and won a grant through the Safe Routes to School Program, securing $460,000 in federal funds for sidewalk and safety improvements. He also served as a charter member of the Dunwoody Sustainability Commission, participating in multiple terms and contributing as Vice-Chair. Additionally, Tom provided key input on the city's first Comprehensive Transportation Plan and its 2016 update as part of the citizens’ advisory committee.
Since being elected to the Dunwoody City Council in 2017, Tom has brought visionary leadership and a strong work ethic to the role. His peers on the council unanimously selected him as Mayor Pro-Tempore, where he has excelled in addressing the city’s needs. Last year, Tom was elected District Three (East) President by the Georgia Municipal Association’s member cities, becoming the first Dunwoody official to serve in that role and to be appointed to the GMA Board of Directors.
When he’s not serving his community, Tom enjoys spending time with Danielle, their family, and friends. The couple also shares a love of tennis and traveling.

Our Schools
Tom has been a fixture in our local schools, both behind the scenes and in positions of leadership. He has served on the Dunwoody Cluster Council, acted as Chair of Kingsley Charter Council, and held the position of President of the Kittredge Magnet School PTA. Under his leadership, Kingsley’s Charter Council was recognized nationally in 2008 as the National Parent Group of the Year by PTO Today magazine. As a founding board member of Georgians for Local Area School Systems (GLASS), Tom advocated at the State Capitol for legislation that would allow the creation of independent school systems in Georgia (a crucial first step for creating a City of Dunwoody school system). He also initiated the “Walk to School” movement and championed its expansion to each elementary school in the city. Tom continues to support educational programs, including Georgia Reads Day, the Dunwoody High School Student City Council and PTSO Scholarship program.
Boy Scouts
Tom was a dedicated leader in Boy Scout Pack/Troop 434 at All Saints Church for over a decade, taking on roles such as Committee Chair, Summer Camp Coordinator, and merit badge counselor. He even spearheaded and led a crew to the Boy Scouts’ High Adventure Sea Base camp in Florida. Tom’s involvement with the Boy Scouts reflects his belief in the importance of teaching leadership skills, citizenship values, and community service to young people.
Youth Sports
As a volunteer coach, Tom has impacted countless lives by teaching teamwork and dedication through sports. He has coached baseball, football, soccer, and basketball at Murphey Candler, Atlanta Colts, Dunwoody Senior Baseball, and DUMC, working with boys' and girls' teams alike. He has also served on the Board of Directors for Murphey Candler. As a GHSA-certified coach, Tom volunteered as a community coach for both football and baseball at Chamblee Middle School. As President of the Chamblee High School Touchdown Club and team manager for the United Futbol Academy, Tom has provided leadership to ensure the community’s young athletes have the resources they need to thrive.
Community Leadership
Tom’s tenure as President of the Kingsley Racquet and Swim Club showcased his ability to revitalize organizations even in challenging times. Under his leadership, the club saw a significant increase in membership and underwent several large improvement projects during the economic downturn.
Citizen Volunteer

Tom has been instrumental in shaping Dunwoody since its incorporation as a city. During Dunwoody’s first week as a new city, Tom collaborated with local leaders against a tight deadline to secure a $460,000 federal Safe Routes to School grant, funding sidewalks and safety improvements. As a charter member of Dunwoody’s Sustainability Commission, he served as vice-chair for multiple terms and was honored as “Dunwoody Sustainability Hero” in 2012.
